Subways and street art

Thinking of possible ways to involve the young people that hang out around the empty shops in Maiden Place - possibly get them involved in some kind of Street art?  I saw this under Reading Bridge, and it really livened up an otherwise dingy space.  Got me thinking about taking the concept of empty shops unexpectedly brightening up unused spaces into other places.

CAT's course

I recently went on a Community Arts Training course, which was really interesting and inspiring, I can't wait to put everything I learnt into practice!  My head feels a bit like this now though!

Doodle/ Develop/ Display

Really exciting- myself and two other local graphic designers will be exhibiting in October in a unique exhibition. The take on the show will be- Doodle/ Develop/ Display- An exhibition celebrating the design process through the work of three emerging graphic designers. My section of the exhibition will be 'portfolio on a wall', the entire contents of my portfolio displayed in an interesting and accessible way.

We are really excited about the opening night- Thursday 8th October 5-8pm, where we are hoping to attract lots of local businesses as potential freelance clients.

Rough idea for the branding for the exhibition:

The Big Weave= Success.

I am pleased to inform you that The Big Weave has been launched successfully over the last three weeks.  Armed with it's very own identity, posters, flyers, website and blog; they set out over Reading to bring weaving to the masses.  They appeared in local newspapers and even had a slot on the tea-time 6 O'clock news!  The project was a huge hit, and the 6ft x 3ft tapestry was finished ahead of schedule with people clambering to weave their bit.  The next step for The Big Weave is to spread out beyond Reading, and create more wonderful tapestries.  Will post up some pictures soon.  In the mean time, an exhibition will be going up within the next week or so at the Mall Gallery, Wokingham documenting the project.

Stickers!

I've just sent out an order for some stickers- very exciting!  I think stickers would be great to hand out to people once they have taken part in a Big Weave event.  They are designed around the 'under-over' concept.  This is the idea I am taking forward from this point. Bold under and over weaving patterns, created in an experimental manner.  My big typographic statements will be used to break up text in the leaflet.  Anyway, here are some of the designs which will be on the small stickers - very simple.
